A note for detached-house owners

The certificates of small residential buildings (1–2 dwellings) are not shown in the public register. If the search finds no certificate for your house, it does not mean there is none – we check the situation for you.

Frequently asked questions

When is an energy certificate mandatory?
An energy certificate is needed when a building or an apartment is sold or rented out, and for new buildings already at the permit stage. The law has exemptions, for example buildings under 50 m² and most holiday homes.
How long is an energy certificate valid?
An energy certificate is valid for at most 10 years from its date. An old certificate is worth checking before a sale or a rental.
Where does the certificate data come from?
The data comes from the official energy certificate register maintained by Varke (the Housing Construction Centre of the Finnish State, formerly ARA).
What if the building has no certificate?
